Before Treatment
Discuss ELVeS™ laser treatment and alternative options with your patient, obtaining informed consent.
Evaluate her overall health and conduct a complete physical examination of the leg.
To map the vein, examine the leg with ultrasound and determine the location of the greater saphenous vein.
The ELVeS™ Procedure
Drape and prepare the patient
Administer local anesthesia to the treatment site.
Create a small incision through the skin behind the knee and into the vein, using ultrasound guidance.
Insert catheter into greater saphenous vein.
Insert laser fiber, using ultrasound guidance and the laser’s aiming beam.
ELVeS™ laser treatment: Emit laser light to seal the vein while slowly withdrawing fiber.
Check with ultrasound to determine success of the procedure.
After Treatment
Apply dressings, including a compression bandage and stockings.
The patient should walk for 20 minutes following the procedure.
She may resume normal activities, barring strenuous workouts .
Follow-up post-operatively to ensure occlusion of vein.
